I'm On The Side Of Mankind As Much As The Next Man

[Long live free enterprise!]

There comes a time when we must ask ourselves
Whether money or mankind are of better time

There comes a day when we must ask ourselves
If the dollar or our fellow man comes first

Oh human life, we would like to value it
But if there's no profit in in it
What's the point?

I'm on the side of mankind as much as the next man
But when it stands in the way of can
Then we must ask mankind if it wouldn't mind standing aside

Oh human life, we would like to value it
But if there's no profit in it
What's the point?

Malcolm:

This is the first song on our last album. The songs on this album are meant to move from Right to Left - the first song is sung by an extreme capitalist spokesman, then as the album goes on we gradually move to the liberal centre, and towards the end we have left-wing revolutionaries. This song
is almost totally the work of Tim. He wrote it and played all the instruments on it, if I remember rightly, except the percussion, which was Gary - I think he was quite pleased with the results - and the melody and lyric, which is me.
