Red Sleeping Beauty

I've been sound asleep for twenty years
If I'm sound asleep a hundred years
She won't wake me
She won't wake me

I've been sound asleep for twenty years
If I'm sound asleep a thousand years
He won't wake me
He won't wake me

Nothing stirs us
Sound asleep
We're sound asleep

Nothing stirs us
Sound asleep
We're sound asleep

While there's still a war to win
My red dream is everything
They won't wake me
They won't wake me

Nothing stops us
Sound asleep
We're sound asleep

Nothing stops us
Sound asleep
We're sound asleep

notes: Released as McCarthy's first official single in 1986.  The conventional wisdom is that the "she" in the first verse refers to Margaret Thatcher.

Malcolm:

We must have written this song in 1985, I think.
Tim had written a few songs before this one, but when he played me the opening notes, I though it sounded a hundred times better than anything he'd done before. Along with Should The Bible Be Banned I should think it's our most popular song. Gary was a very active drummer on the early songs, and sometimes this worked and sometimes it didn't, but on this song I think it did.
